World Wetlands Day 2025 - Movies Under the Stars
After the very successful World Wetland Day Film Night in 2023, saw this year on the 15th of April our intrepid PAWA member Miriam Fokker again organising a wonderful event under the stars at Jerrabomberra Wetlands in the ACT.
Miriam is one of PAWA’s amazing ACT members and her passion for the environment and for wetlands sees her bringing together not only PAWA members but also the wider community. Raising awareness of the importance of wetlands, the role of community in conservation and to fundraise to help less fortunate Rangers across Oceania.
It was a beautiful evening of short films, live music, wetland walks, activities for the kids, community stalls coupled with food, drinks and barbeque. Over 100 people came along to enjoy the event. WOW!....what an evening!. PAWA members, ACT Parks and community volunteers made it a very special night.
Over $2200 was raised on the evening with the funds to be used to send much needed uniform and other aid to Rangers in Samoa, the Solomon Islands and Tonga. This event and our PAWA hosted Trivia night, held last year are great examples of how you as a PAWA member, If you are passionate about a cause can get involved, organise an event and help to make this world a better place.
Thank you to Miriam! You are amazing as are all our PAWA ACT members and the community volunteers who helped. Special thanks to John (Miriam’s partner) and the Fokker daughters who put on a wonderful barbeque and to ACT Parks for supporting the event…..hope we can do it all again next year!
